On the afternoon of July 6, the online opening ceremony of the 2020 UK “Over the Cloud” summer school was held by HCBU. Dr. Kong Jun from Cambridge University, Dr. Gao Jie from University College of London, Lv Ying, Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Beihang University, and Han Yu, HCBU Deputy Dean, attended the ceremony. 31 summer school students, project assistants and foreign affairs assistants of HCBU also attended the opening ceremony. Zhang Jianglong, the Chinese contact of the project, presided over the ceremony.
Dr. Kong Jun, head of the British side of the "Over the Cloud" summer school, delivered a speech. He pointed out that promoting academic and cultural exchanges and cooperation between Cambridge University and Chinese universities was an important content to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and the growth of top-ranking talents. Cambridge University and HCBU shared good foundation and prospects for cooperation. Under the background of global epidemic, both sides contacted and communicated to promote the online summer school, with its content covering special invitation report, thematic courses, cultural experience, exchange and discussion, etc. It is hoped that it can help Beihang students to understand British culture, pursue academic, feel the charm of Cambridge, so as to broaden the cooperation between the two sides in the future.
Lv Ying, Deputy Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department of Beihang University, pointed out that Beihang always adhered to the international development strategy and participated in international exchanges and cooperation with a positive and open attitude. Beihang has established multilateral cooperative relations with many world-class universities, including Cambridge University, and carried out multi-level exchanges and cooperation. At the same time, Beihang actively supported its colleges to establish high-level cooperative relationship and brand cooperation projects according to educational objectives and discipline characteristics. Under the background of epidemic, we were delighted to see the innovative cooperation, “Over the Cloud” summer school, between HCBU and University of Cambridge. We hoped that this summer school could be able to create a new mode of international education with more efficient exchanges and more cutting-edge courses.
Han Yu, head of the Chinese side of the summer school, pointed out that the cooperation between HCBU and Cambridge University enjoyed a long history and has achieved remarkable results. With Cambridge University as the core, we also cooperated with Oxford University, Imperial College, Edinburgh University and other famous British universities. This summer school arranged courses based on scientific and technological reports, cultural understanding, exchange and discussion, showing extensive content, academic prospect, and interdisciplinary view, which is highly consistent with HCBU’s goal of "training internationalized talents”. It is hoped that the two sides could work together to turn crisis into opportunity and organize this summer school with high quality, creating a new chapter for international exchanges and cooperation. At the same time, she hoped that students participating in the project could participate in the course on time, actively exchange ideas, get more knowledge of science, make friends, explore the world in the cultural experience, and improve themselves in the international exchange.
HCBU has always attached great importance to international exchanges. As early as March this year, HCBU started the preparatory work of the 2020 international exchange project with both online and offline preparations, and contacted and negotiated with partners, including Cambridge University, at the first time to formulate the blueprint for this year's international exchange. The opening of the two-week "Over the Cloud" Summer School of Cambridge University marks the full launch of HCBU's online international exchange program in 2020. In the future, other "cloud" summer schools, "remote" scientific research internships and "online" intelligence introduction courses will be launched one after another.
