2019 Excellent Mentor Commending Conference and 2020 Mentor Conferring Conference

A few days ago, the 2019 excellent mentor commending conference and 2020 mentor conferring conference were successfully held in the No.1 Lecture Hall of the Main Building. More than 270 people participated in the conference, including HCBU leaders, counselors, representatives of excellent development mentors for class 2019, newly recruited mentors for class 2020, and all undergraduates of class 2020.


The conference opened in the inspiring propaganda film of HCBU named Definition. Taking "3W1H" (what, why, who, how) as the key word, Han Yu, Deputy Dean of HCBU, gave a systematic introduction to the development mentoring system. He summarized and evaluated the implementation of the system in the last academic year, and put forward some suggestions and expectations for the work in the upcoming academic year.

Liu Kesheng, Party Secretary of HCBU, announced the list of excellent development mentors for class 2019 and awarded honorary certificates to them. Mentor representatives Li Ying, Jia Yuxiao and Qiao Boying summarized their work in providing academic support, major recognition, science and technology practice, and future plan for students. Besides, they shared their special activities and thoughts. Then Mao Liquan, representative of undergraduate students of class 2019, shared his gains of getting along with the development tutor, and expressed gratitude to mentors and the development mentoring system.

Han Yu, HCBU Deputy Dean, and Xu Moke, HCBU League Secretary announced the list of newly recruited development mentors for class 2020 and issued the letter of appointment. Lin Xiaoqian, representative of development mentors for class 2020, and Ma Jingying, representative of the 2019 undergraduates, made speeches successively. They said that they would bear in mind their original mission, conscientiously perform their duties, enrich their work forms and contents to take part in the undergraduate education with full enthusiasm and sincerity, and inherit and carry forward the glorious tradition of peer counseling. Liu Tianning, representative of 2020 undergraduates, said that he would actively join in academic communication and practice, and take mentors as examples to open a new chapter of life.


Liu Kesheng fully affirmed mentors’ work in the past academic year, and put forward three requirements and expectations for the newly recruited 36 development mentors, 65 mentors of the “Mentor Plan” and all the undergraduates of class 2020 with "development" as the key word. First, set up lofty ideals and closely link personal development planning with the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; second, strengthen the cultivation of abilities and pay attention to the all-round development; third, cultivate the development thinking and solve academic and research problems with the development vision. It is hoped that mentors and undergraduates can make progress together and achieve mutual achievements.

The development mentoring system is a “peer education” system initiated by HCBU since 2012. Based on the excellent resources of HCBU Ph.D. classes, it encourages lower-grade doctoral students to take advantage of their own experience to provide comprehensive guidance and assistance for undergraduate students in academic development, career cognition, technology competition, and personal development. After years of practice and improvement, the development mentoring system has become one of the important mechanisms of HCBU talent training, and played an important role in the cultivation of undergraduate and doctoral students.
